It aspires to connect any point of the Earth in less than an hour. According to him, we could go from Paris to New York in 29 minutes, and from New York to Shanghai in 39 minutes.
If no launch date for this project has been announced, Elon Musk already knows which of his engines would be best suited to achieve this. A rocket, baptized "BFR", smaller than that developed for its space missions, which could travel 27 000 km / h and transport 100 people. The price of a ticket would be similar to an airline ticket in economy class and travelers will have to travel on platforms installed on the water to board.
