Laser cannons for the US Army

Lockheed Martin reports the delivery of laser guns for the US military.

Weapons specialist Lockheed Martin has announced his ability to supply the US Army in 60-kW laser guns in the near future. Its last tests indicate a power of 58 kW which can be further improved.
Such devices would be defensive because the
y are meant to demolish mortar and rocket shells, but also drones that are increasingly accessible and used in attacks to send explosive charges.

One advantage put forward, in addition to efficiency, is the decreased risk compared to bullets that can affect allied troops and civilians. This is to heat the target to blow it up in flight. It will be "just" to pay attention to the debris that will fall.

These laser guns will not be transported on the soldier's back, however. Their size and power make it necessary to have a mobile platform to move and supply them with energy. They may also be non-mobile.
